Sterile Processing Technician (Travel Assignment) – Upper Marlboro, MD

Join a hospital-based sterile processing team in Upper Marlboro, MD, and use your sterile processing and surgical instrument processing skills to support safe, efficient patient care. This 13-week travel assignment is an excellent fit for an experienced Sterile Processing Tech who thrives in a fast-paced Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) environment and enjoys supporting cardiac, orthopedic, neuro, and other surgical specialties in the Washington, D.C. metro area.

• Shift: 5 shifts per week, 8-hour evenings (3:00 PM - 11:30 PM)
• Weekly Hours: 40
• Orientation: 24 hours
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $980 - $1,060
• Schedule Notes: No on-call; weekend coverage required as part of block scheduling, including every Sunday rotation
• Floating: Required within the specialty and to a nearby campus as needed
• Location: Upper Marlboro, Maryland (Washington, D.C. metro area)

Job Requirements

• 2 years of sterile processing experience required
• Proficiency in tray assembly for cardiac, orthopedic, and neuro cases required
• CBSPD or IAHCSMM/HSPA certification required
• BLS preferred
• Experience in a community hospital setting required
• Strong knowledge of sterile processing workflows, decontamination, high-level disinfection, and sterilization monitoring
• Experience with SPM and Steris V-Pro is highly valued
• Must be comfortable working holidays as scheduled
• First-time travelers with strong sterile processing proficiency are welcome to apply

Responsibilities

• Assemble, inspect, and prepare surgical instrument trays with accuracy and efficiency
• Support decontamination, cleaning, packaging, sterilization, and high-level disinfection processes
• Process and monitor instrumentation for a wide range of surgical specialties, including cardiac, ortho, neuro, OB/GYN, urology, and robotics
• Follow proper labeling, wrapping, and sterilization standards to help ensure patient safety
• Operate and monitor equipment such as washers, sterilizers, SPM, and Steris V-Pro systems
• Maintain organized workflow and documentation while collaborating with surgical services and clinical support teams
• Float within the specialty area and assist where needed to keep operations moving smoothly
