Job Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience in pathology, pathology grossing, or acute hospital laboratory work
• Pathologists' Assistant (PA) ASCP certification required
• Strong experience grossing specimens in an acute care hospital setting
• Knowledge of pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic laboratory procedures
• Comfortable handling specimen receipt, accessioning, processing, and archival workflows
• Ability to maintain accuracy, professionalism, and strong attention to detail in a fast-paced laboratory environment
• Experience with quality control, troubleshooting, and compliance-focused documentation

Responsibilities

• Receive, verify, and accession specimens according to laboratory policies and procedures
• Process specimens for testing, interpretation, and submission to other laboratories as needed
• Perform accurate data entry throughout the testing, interpretation, and reporting process
• Follow patient identification standards to ensure accuracy and safety at every step
• Perform gross dissection and detailed description of pathology specimens of varying complexity
• Assist with intra-procedural consultations, including gross examinations and frozen sectioning
• Support post-mortem examinations by reviewing documentation, summarizing history, performing dissection, and documenting findings
• Handle ancillary tasks such as decalcification, photography, imaging, storage, retrieval, and disposal of pathology materials
• Maintain equipment, supplies, and reagents in accordance with laboratory standards
• Participate in quality control, validation, implementation, compliance efforts, and problem-solving initiatives
• Support the laboratory team with additional duties within scope of training, regulation, and practice
