Job Requirements

• Graduation from an approved Surgical Assistant program required
• At least 1 year of experience in a surgical assistant or cardiac first assist role preferred
• Experience taking second call for a cardiac surgery service line required
• National certification preferred from one of the following: NBSTSA, NCCSA, or ABSA
• Ability to support complex cardiac cases, call coverage, and interfacility travel as needed
• Strong knowledge of perioperative workflow, sterile technique, and patient safety practices

Responsibilities

• Assist the attending physician in cardiac surgical procedures by providing exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical support
• Perform preoperative and postoperative duties to help ensure smooth patient care throughout the perioperative period
• First and/or second assist in cardiac surgery cases across a variety of complex procedures
• Support regional call coverage for the cardiac surgery program throughout the system
• Provide call support for transplant cases, including donor and recipient coverage when needed
• Travel by car, ambulance, plane, or helicopter as required to meet patient care needs
• Collaborate with the surgical team to help deliver safe, efficient, high-quality outcomes
• Follow all facility policies, safety standards, and patient privacy requirements
