ICU Registered Nurse - Cardio Thoracic ICU Travel Assignment in Chesapeake, VA

Travel ICU Registered Nurse opportunity in Chesapeake, Virginia for an experienced Cardio Thoracic ICU / Cardiac ICU nurse. Job Details

• Specialty: Cardio Thoracic ICU / Cardiac ICU / CVICU / CTICU
• Setting: Adult ICU with universal bed model and step-down patient care
• Location: Chesapeake, VA 23320
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks with possible extension
• Estimated Weekly Pay: $2,020 - $2,130
• Shift: Night shift, 12-hour shifts (19:00 - 07:30)
• Schedule Options: 3x12s or 4x12s; 48-hour contract option available
• Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend required
• Orientation: 24 hours
• Patient Ratio: 1:1 on days; 1:2 on nights and weekends
• Patient Population: Adult cardiac and post-operative patients

Job Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of experience in CVICU / CTICU / Cardiac ICU
• Active Virginia or Compact RN license in hand at time of submission
• Current Epic experience required
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association
• ACLS certification from the American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale certification
• Strong neurocritical care experience, including post-brain surgery care and EVD / ventriculostomy experience
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, titration of drips, ventilator support, and advanced ICU equipment
• Ability to pass required compliance screening and testing
• Must live more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify as a traveler
• Travel nurse experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care for cardiac and thoracic ICU patients
• Care for step-down patients under the universal bed model
• Monitor and manage arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, and blood product administration
• Titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips with precision and clinical judgment
• Support ventilated patients, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, and complex respiratory needs
• Assist with management of CABG, post-cardiac surgery, IABP, Impella, and pulmonary artery/Swan Ganz monitoring
• Perform neuro-focused assessments and support acute stroke and post-operative neuro patients
• Care for patients with multisystem organ dysfunction, CRRT/CVVHD, and advanced hemodynamic monitoring
• Follow infection prevention practices, isolation precautions, and wound care protocols
• Collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary care team to support safe, efficient patient care
