OR Technician / Sterile Processing Team Lead – Travel Contract in Chicago, IL

Join a high-acuity Chicago healthcare team as a travel OR Technician and Sterile Processing Team Lead supporting central sterile processing and operating room readiness. In this hands-on night-shift role, you will help ensure surgical instruments, trays, and equipment are safely decontaminated, sterilized, prepared, and available for patient care in a Level I Trauma environment. OR Technician and Sterile Processing Requirements

• At least 2 years of sterile processing or operating room experience preferred
• Level I Trauma experience required for OR assignments
• Experience with surgical instrument decontamination, instrument processing, sterilization, and surgical tray preparation
• Previous team lead, charge, or supervisory experience is helpful
• Current Illinois license in hand, when applicable, along with required state or national certification for the role
• Current surgical services or sterile processing credentials as required
• Ability to work overnight shifts and rotating weekends
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to infection prevention, quality assurance, and patient safety

Sterile Processing and Operating Room Responsibilities

• Perform decontamination and processing of surgical instruments and operating room equipment
• Assemble, inspect, wrap, label, sterilize, and distribute surgical trays according to established standards
• Support operating room readiness by ensuring instruments, equipment, and supplies are available when needed
• Verify instrument functionality and identify damaged, missing, or improperly processed items
• Follow infection prevention, sterilization, safety, and quality assurance procedures
• Collaborate with operating room staff, surgical services personnel, and other members of the healthcare team
• Provide team leadership and help coordinate sterile processing workflow during assigned shifts
• Maintain accurate documentation and promptly communicate processing or equipment concerns
