Phlebotomist Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,090–$1,170
• Location: Antioch, California
• Healthcare Setting: Clinical laboratory with hospital and outpatient laboratory services
• Schedule: 5 shifts per week
• Shift Duration: 8-hour nights
• Shift Hours: 8:00 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.
• Weekly Hours: 40 hours
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks
• Start Date: October 20, 2026
• Patient Population: Infants, adolescents, adults, pediatric, and geriatric patients

Phlebotomist Job Requirements

• At least 2 years of phlebotomy or clinical laboratory experience
• Valid California State CPT I certification
• Proficiency with venipuncture, vacutainer, syringe, finger-stick, and heel-stick blood collection techniques
• Knowledge of the CLSI-recommended order of blood draws and appropriate specimen handling
• Experience with blood cultures, coagulation tubes, EDTA tubes, serum tubes, heparin tubes, and glucose testing specimens
• Ability to accurately identify patients and specimens, label samples, and maintain proper documentation
• Familiarity with aseptic technique, transmission-based precautions, specimen processing, centrifugation, aliquoting, and storage
• Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize stat, timed, and routine specimen collections
• Comfort working independently on an overnight schedule while collaborating with laboratory and clinical teams

Clinical Laboratory Phlebotomy Responsibilities

• Collect blood and other laboratory specimens from infants, adolescents, adults, pediatric patients, and geriatric patients
• Verify patient identity and ensure accurate specimen identification and labeling
• Prepare, transport, process, centrifuge, aliquot, and store specimens according to laboratory procedures
• Perform venipuncture, finger-stick, heel-stick, and other approved blood collection techniques
• Follow proper blood culture collection procedures and maintain aseptic technique
• Prioritize collections based on stat, timed, and routine laboratory orders
• Provide clear patient instructions regarding specimen collection and preservation
• Complete related clerical functions, data entry, medical record review, and documentation
• Dispose of sharps and other materials safely in accordance with applicable protocols
• Support quality assurance activities and complete additional laboratory projects as assigned
