Travel Phlebotomist Job Details

• Location: Antioch, California
• Setting: Clinical laboratory
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,090–$1,170
• Schedule: 5 shifts per week, 8-hour night shifts
• Shift: 8:00 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.
• Hours: Approximately 40 hours per week
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks
• Start Date: October 20, 2026
• End Date: January 19, 2027
• Patient Population: Infants, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients

Phlebotomist Job Requirements

• At least 2 years of recent phlebotomy experience
• Current California CPT I (Certified Phlebotomy Technician I) certification
• Strong knowledge of venipuncture, finger sticks, heel sticks, and specimen collection techniques
• Proficiency with aseptic technique, blood cultures, order of draw, specimen labeling, processing, storage, and transportation
• Ability to accurately identify patients and specimens while following laboratory policies and quality standards
• Experience with electronic laboratory or hospital information systems is preferred
• Excellent attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to work effectively during overnight hours

Clinical Laboratory Phlebotomist Responsibilities

• Collect blood specimens through venipuncture, finger sticks, heel sticks, and syringe methods as appropriate
• Verify patient identity and ensure accurate specimen labeling and documentation
• Prepare, centrifuge, aliquot, store, and transport specimens according to laboratory procedures
• Perform blood cultures, glucose testing, timed collections, and other assigned specimen collection procedures
• Prioritize stat, timed, and routine collections based on provider and laboratory requests
• Provide appropriate patient positioning, collection instructions, and post-venipuncture site care
• Complete related clerical and data-entry functions while maintaining accurate medical records
• Follow infection prevention, transmission-based precautions, quality assurance, and specimen handling standards
• Support clinical laboratory operations and complete special projects as assigned
