ICU Travel Nurse Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,020–$2,130
• Specialty: Intensive Care Unit (ICU) / Coronary Care
• Setting: On-site, 24-bed high-acuity ICU
• Location: Mechanicsville, Virginia, near Richmond
• Start Date: October 12, 2026
• End Date: January 11, 2027
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour day shifts
• Hours: 36 hours per week
• Scheduling Requirements: Every other weekend and one major holiday required
• Patient Population: Primarily older adults with sepsis, CVA, pneumonia, ARDS, respiratory failure, heart failure, renal failure, overdose, CIWA, and other complex critical care needs
• Local Candidate Policy: Applicants must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the assignment location

ICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia or a valid compact-state license
• Minimum of 2 years of recent ICU or critical care nursing experience; 3 years is strongly preferred
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications
• Demonstrated proficiency with mechanical ventilation, sedation management, and titration of vasoactive drips and pressors
• Proficiency with laboratory draws and peripheral IV starts
• Ability to read and verify cardiac rhythm strips and successfully complete an EKG examination during orientation
• Experience with hemodynamic monitoring and advanced respiratory modalities
• Experience with Impella, CRRT, and cardiac surgery patients is preferred
• Neuro critical care experience is preferred
• Ability to provide safe, evidence-based nursing care to adult and geriatric patients
• Strong communication, clinical judgment, adaptability, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
• Copy of nursing diploma required for point-of-care testing access

ICU Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive initial and ongoing assessments of critically ill patients and develop individualized plans of care
• Deliver and evaluate nursing interventions using the nursing process and current standards of critical care practice
• Manage patients requiring mechanical ventilation, sedation, vasoactive infusions, and other life-support therapies
• Perform and interpret hemodynamic monitoring, including care of patients with Swan-Ganz catheters
• Provide care for patients with multi-system organ failure, complex cardiac conditions, respiratory failure, and other critical illnesses
• Assist with the insertion and management of intra-aortic balloon pumps, Impella devices, chest tubes, and temporary or transvenous pacing
• Administer medications and conscious sedation safely and accurately
• Use point-of-care testing equipment, including EPOC and i-STAT systems, as appropriate
• Recognize and respond rapidly to changes in patient condition, escalating concerns and interventions when needed
• Coordinate care with the interdisciplinary team, patients, families, and caregivers
• Advocate for patient safety, dignity, privacy, and informed care decisions
• Educate patients, families, caregivers, and nursing colleagues while contributing to quality improvement initiatives
• Maintain accurate documentation and follow infection prevention, safety, and professional practice standards
