Travel Nursing Job Details

• Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing assignment
• Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
• Start Date: October 12, 2026
• End Date: January 11, 2027
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,840–$1,940
• Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 36 hours per week
• Shift: 12-hour nights, 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
• Patient Population: Neonates and adults; low- and high-risk obstetric patients
• Unit Profile: Private labor rooms, triage beds, OB operating rooms, and an average daily census of approximately 10 patients
• Weekend and Holiday Coverage: Every other weekend and every other holiday; must work two of the three winter holidays
• Floating: Mother/Baby and NICU feeder-and-grower assignments within scope of practice
• Orientation: 36 hours, including one 12-hour specialty orientation shift

Labor & Delivery RN Job Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse license; a Virginia RN license pending may be considered, provided it is in hand by the Wednesday before the start date
• At least 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery RN experience
• Current BLS, NRP, fetal monitoring, and AWHONN Intermediate certifications
• ACLS certification preferred; may be required according to unit policy
• Epic electronic health record and clinical charting experience required
• Demonstrated competency in fetal monitoring, high-risk antepartum care, maternal stabilization, and neonatal resuscitation
• Experience circulating Cesarean sections and caring for patients with complex maternal and fetal conditions
• Ability to float to Mother/Baby and stable NICU feeder-and-grower assignments
• BSN preferred
• Willingness to complete required specialty modules and comply with applicable vaccination and credentialing requirements

Travel Labor & Delivery RN Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and the immediate postpartum period
• Care for high-risk obstetric patients with conditions such as preeclampsia, eclampsia, preterm labor, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, fetal anomalies, and maternal comorbidities
• Recognize and respond to abnormal fetal heart rate patterns and changes in maternal or fetal condition
• Circulate Cesarean sections and assist with OB procedures, including cerclage, bilateral tubal ligation, fetal transfusion, and OB PACU recovery
• Perform obstetric triage assessments and initiate appropriate nursing interventions
• Administer medications and therapies, including magnesium sulfate and insulin infusions, according to orders and protocols
• Complete newborn assessments, support neonatal resuscitation, and provide routine care for stable feeder-and-grower infants when floated to NICU
• Support Mother/Baby care, including postpartum assessment, newborn care, feeding support, and patient education
• Start and maintain IV access, draw venous blood, apply isolation precautions, and document accurately in Epic
• Collaborate with physicians, certified nurse midwives, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, respiratory services, pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, and other interdisciplinary teams
• Promote safe, compassionate patient care while communicating changes promptly and maintaining efficient unit workflows
