Join a collaborative Labor & Delivery team as a Travel Registered Nurse in Charlottesville, Virginia. This 13-week night-shift assignment offers the opportunity to care for diverse low- and high-risk obstetric patients in a busy unit supporting approximately 2,000 deliveries annually. You will work alongside an interdisciplinary care team while gaining experience across Labor & Delivery, Mother/Baby, OB PACU, and stable NICU feeder-and-grower patients.

Travel Nursing Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,840–$1,940
• Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing contract
• Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
• Start Date: October 12, 2026
• End Date: January 11, 2027
• Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
• Hours: 36 hours per week
• Unit: Labor & Delivery
• Patient Population: Neonates and adults; low- and high-risk obstetric patients
• Patient Ratios: Typically 1:2 on days, nights, and weekends
• Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend; approximately 6–7 weekend shifts during the contract
• Holiday Rotation: Every other holiday, including two of the three winter holidays
• Floating: Cross-training and floating to Mother/Baby and the NICU for stable feeder-and-grower infants may be required
• Orientation: One 12-hour clinical orientation shift, with additional onboarding activities as assigned

Labor & Delivery RN Job Requirements

• At least 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse experience
• Active Registered Nurse license; a Virginia license pending may be considered if obtained before the required pre-start deadline
• BLS certification
• ACLS certification
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
• AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certification
• Current Epic charting experience
• Demonstrated competency with fetal monitoring, obstetric triage, high-risk antepartum care, magnesium sulfate therapy, postpartum hemorrhage, and newborn assessment
• Experience circulating Cesarean sections is required
• Ability to care for patients with conditions including preeclampsia, eclampsia, preterm labor, diabetes, hypertension, fetal anomalies, maternal comorbidities, and other high-risk complications
• Willingness to float within the nurse’s scope of practice and support Mother/Baby and stable NICU patients
• BSN preferred

Travel RN Responsibilities

• Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and the postpartum period
• Perform obstetric triage and assess maternal and fetal status
• Recognize and respond to abnormal fetal heart rate patterns and changes in patient condition
• Support vaginal deliveries, high-risk antepartum care, and Cesarean sections, including circulating in the OB operating room
• Care for patients receiving magnesium sulfate, insulin infusions, and other treatments associated with high-risk pregnancies
• Assist with OB PACU recovery, cerclage procedures, bilateral tubal ligation, fetal transfusion, and related obstetric procedures
• Provide newborn assessments, routine neonatal care, and support for stable feeder-and-grower infants when floated
• Administer medications, initiate and maintain IV access, draw venous blood, and follow isolation and PPE protocols
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in Epic
• Collaborate with providers, certified nurse-midwives, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, and other interdisciplinary partners
• Promote family-centered care and follow Baby-Friendly protocols
