Med/Surg Tele Float Pool Registered Nurse (RN) – Travel Nursing Contract in Castro Valley, CA

Join a collaborative healthcare team as a Med/Surg Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN) on a 13-week travel nursing contract in Castro Valley, California. Travel Nursing Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,190–$2,310
• Location: Castro Valley, California
• Setting: On-site Med/Surg Telemetry Float Pool
• Start Date: October 19, 2026
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks
• Schedule: 3 shifts per week; 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m.
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, including approximately two weekend shifts per pay period
• Holiday Coverage: Holiday coverage is required
• Typical Patient Ratio: 5 patients per nurse
• Charting System: Epic
• Patient Population: Adults and geriatric patients

Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• At least 2 years of recent Registered Nurse experience in medical-surgical and telemetry care
• Current California Registered Nurse license
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications from AHA or ARC
• NIHSS certification
• Previous telemetry and hospital float pool experience preferred
• Trauma Level II experience required
• Demonstrated Epic electronic health record charting experience
• Ability to float among multiple medical-surgical and telemetry units while practicing safely within scope
• Strong patient assessment, prioritization, communication, and teamwork skills

Med/Surg Telemetry RN Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric medical-surgical and telemetry patients
• Float to multiple hospital units based on patient-care needs and staffing priorities
• Monitor cardiac rhythms and recognize changes in patient condition
• Manage oxygen therapy, high-flow nasal cannula, BiPAP/CPAP, non-invasive airways, and respiratory support needs
• Administer medications, blood products, insulin therapies, and heparin protocols according to policy
• Provide care for patients with conditions including CVA, renal failure, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and orthopedic trauma
• Perform central and peripheral line care, PICC management, IV starts, phlebotomy, surgical drain care, chest tube care, wound care, and wound-vac management
• Coordinate with respiratory therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, and other interdisciplinary partners
• Use rapid response and code team resources appropriately and contribute to a safe, patient-centered care environment
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in Epic
