Med/Surg Tele Registered Nurse (RN) – California Travel Nursing Contract

This 13-week nursing contract in Castro Valley, California offers experienced RNs the opportunity to care for adult and geriatric patients in a collaborative East Bay healthcare community near Lake Chabot and the greater San Francisco Bay Area.

Travel RN Job Details

• Location: Castro Valley, California
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,190–$2,310
• Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing contract
• Start Date: October 19, 2026
• End Date: January 18, 2027
• Shift: Day shift, 7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m.
• Shifts per Week: 3
• Shift Duration: 12 hours
• Schedule: Every other weekend; approximately 2 weekend shifts per pay period. Holiday coverage is required.
• Patient Assignment: Approximately 1 nurse to 5 patients
• Orientation: 56 hours
• Charting: Epic
• Patient Population: Adults and geriatric patients
• Healthcare Setting: Medical-surgical and telemetry float pool

Med/Surg Tele RN Job Requirements

• Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license
• At least 2 years of recent Registered Nurse experience in medical-surgical and telemetry settings
• Telemetry nursing experience, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications from AHA or ARC
• Trauma Level II experience required; community hospital experience preferred
• Demonstrated ability to float across multiple medical-surgical and telemetry units within scope of practice
• Experience with Epic or a comparable electronic health record system
• Strong clinical judgment, adaptability, communication, and teamwork skills
• Ability to support weekend and holiday coverage requirements
• Completion of required onboarding, health screening, documentation, and learning activities before the assignment start date

Travel Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Deliver safe, compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to adult and geriatric patients across medical-surgical and telemetry units.
• Float between assigned units and adapt quickly to varying patient conditions, workflows, and care team needs.
• Monitor telemetry, recognize changes in patient condition, and initiate appropriate interventions and escalation.
• Provide care for patients with cardiac conditions, cerebrovascular accidents, renal failure, orthopedic trauma, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and post-surgical needs.
• Manage oxygen therapy, high-flow nasal cannula, BiPAP/CPAP, tracheostomies, chest tubes, surgical drains, feeding tubes, central lines, PICC lines, and peripheral IV access.
• Administer blood products and medications safely, including insulin and heparin protocols, and perform appropriate titration and monitoring.
• Complete assessments, medication administration, care planning, patient education, documentation, and reassessments in Epic.
• Support pre- and post-procedure care, including hemodialysis, neurosurgery, and total joint replacement patients.
• Use rapid response and code team resources appropriately while collaborating with respiratory therapy, pharmacy, radiology, rehabilitation, social services, and other interdisciplinary partners.
• Maintain infection prevention practices, isolation precautions, wound care standards, and patient safety initiatives.
