Ultrasound Technologist Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,270–$2,440

Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Job Requirements

• At least 2 years of recent, relevant ultrasound or diagnostic medical sonography experience
• ARDMS certification
• Basic Life Support certification for healthcare providers
• At least two of the following credentials or specialty certifications: Abdomen, Breast, Fetal Echocardiography, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatric Sonography, or Registered Vascular Technologist
• Intermediate knowledge of diagnostic sonography principles, procedures, views, equipment, anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology
• Ability to recognize, prioritize, and communicate suspicious or abnormal findings appropriately
• Strong written and verbal communication, organization, time management, and critical-thinking skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively while managing multiple priorities in a hospital environment
• Working knowledge of electronic health records, radiology information systems, PACS, and standard computer applications
• Commitment to patient privacy, safety, professional standards, and applicable regulations

Ultrasound Technologist Responsibilities

• Perform routine and specialized sonographic examinations of moderate complexity
• Operate ultrasound equipment and obtain accurate, diagnostic-quality images for physician interpretation
• Assess patients, explain procedures, provide reassurance, and promote patient cooperation throughout examinations
• Apply sound clinical judgment when responding to challenging diagnostic procedures, traumas, and hospital emergencies
• Recognize and promptly communicate suspicious or abnormal results to the appropriate healthcare providers
• Document examinations and patient information accurately in applicable imaging and electronic systems
• Maintain patient confidentiality and follow hospital, department, safety, and infection-control procedures
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, technologists, and other members of the healthcare team
• Assist with department procedures and support the orientation of other staff members as needed
