• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Patient Ratio: Approximately 1 nurse to 6 patients
• Patient Population: Adults and geriatric patients
• Charting: Epic electronic health record (EHR)
• Float Requirement: Will float among appropriate medical-surgical assignments
• Orientation: Facility orientation and required learning modules are completed at the start of the assignment

Medical-Surgical Travel Nurse Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois, held in hand before the start of the assignment
• At least 2 years of recent medical-surgical nursing experience
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Experience caring for adult and geriatric patients in a medical-surgical hospital setting
• Demonstrated ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias and monitor telemetry
• Competency in tracheostomy care and management
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification preferred
• Ability to adapt quickly to changing assignments and work effectively within a nursing float pool
• Time-off requests are limited to 3 days and may not fall during the first or final week of the contract

Medical-Surgical RN Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to medical-surgical patients across assigned hospital units
• Assess patient conditions, develop and implement individualized care plans, and evaluate outcomes
• Administer medications and treatments safely in accordance with established standards
• Monitor telemetry, interpret dysrhythmias, and promptly communicate changes in patient status
• Perform and document tracheostomy care and management; respiratory therapy support is available as needed
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the Epic electronic health record
• Collaborate with physicians, therapy services, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, social services, and rapid response teams
• Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatments, medications, and discharge plans
• Float between appropriate assignments while maintaining safe, organized, and compassionate patient care
• Support a positive team environment and uphold patient safety and quality standards
