PICU Travel Nurse Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Nebraska
• At least 2 years of recent pediatric critical care and cardiac ICU experience
• Current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications
• CCRN certification preferred
• Strong experience caring for post-operative cardiac patients, including open-heart cases, single-ventricle physiology, complex cardiac anatomy, heart transplant, and heart failure
• Proficiency with pediatric dosage calculations and use of the Broselow system
• Experience with ventilated patients, acute airway care, ventilator management, and high-flow nasal cannula therapy
• Experience with arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, hemodynamic monitoring, chest tubes, and blood product administration
• Ability to manage IV vasopressors, cardiac infusions, sedation infusions, and dysrhythmias
• ECMO and CRRT exposure or experience strongly preferred
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and in a high-acuity pediatric environment

Pediatric Cardiac ICU Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill neonates, infants, and pediatric cardiac patients.
• Care for patients recovering from open-heart surgery and those with complex congenital cardiac conditions, heart failure, or transplant needs.
• Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, arterial blood gases, and invasive hemodynamic data, including CVP and arterial pressure monitoring.
• Administer and titrate vasopressors, cardiac medications, sedation infusions, blood products, and other critical care therapies.
• Manage ventilators, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, tracheostomies, endotracheal tubes, and acute airway needs.
• Provide care for patients requiring chest tubes, central lines, PICC lines, pulmonary artery pressure monitoring, and continuous sedation.
• Recognize and respond to clinical deterioration, dysrhythmias, and changes in hemodynamic status.
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, radiology, rehabilitation services, social services, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team.
• Maintain accurate documentation, follow pediatric safety practices, and deliver family-centered care.
• Support a collaborative unit environment while floating to designated pediatric or medical-surgical areas as needed.
