Travel Nursing Job Details

• Nursing Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m.; 36 hours per week
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Patient Ratio: 1:2 on days, nights, and weekends
• Unit: 32-bed PICU with a typical daily census of 12–18 patients
• Patient Population: Infants, children, and adolescents with non-cardiac medical and surgical conditions
• Floating: Travelers may be asked to float to the NICU, pediatric critical care areas, or medical-surgical units based on staffing needs
• Orientation: 24 hours

PICU RN Job Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Nebraska or a valid compact RN license
• Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience, including pediatric critical care nursing experience
• Previous experience in a large pediatric hospital required
• Level II trauma experience required; Level I trauma experience preferred
• Strong experience with ventilated patients and servo ventilators required
• Demonstrated proficiency with intubation, airway management, and continuous sedation
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association
• Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
• Epic electronic health record (EHR) charting experience required
• Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN) or Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN) certification preferred
• Ability to provide care in a fast-paced, high-acuity PICU and adapt to floating requirements

Pediatric Critical Care RN Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients in a 32-bed PICU
• Care for patients with respiratory failure, trauma, neurological conditions, post-operative needs, and other complex medical-surgical diagnoses
• Manage ventilated patients, servo ventilators, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, and acute airways
• Assist with and manage intubations, suctioning, tracheostomy care, and other advanced airway interventions
• Monitor and manage arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, ports, chest tubes, gastric tubes, and urinary catheters
• Administer and monitor continuous sedation, IV vasopressors, blood products, TPN/lipids, insulin, and other critical care medications
• Assess neurological status and support patients requiring EVD, ICP monitoring, seizure management, or post-neurosurgical care
• Interpret relevant clinical data, including arterial blood gases and end-tidal CO2 monitoring, to guide timely interventions
• Apply pediatric dosage calculations and use the Broselow system when appropriate
• Collaborate with respiratory therapy, pharmacy, radiology, IV teams, rapid response teams, rehabilitation services, social services, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in Epic
• Promote infection prevention, safe patient handling, family-centered care, and excellent clinical outcomes
