PICU Travel Nursing Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,470–$2,600
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks
• Start Date: October 19, 2026
• End Date: January 18, 2027
• Schedule: 3 shifts per week
• Shift Duration: 12-hour night shifts
• Shift Time: 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.
• Hours per Week: 36
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Work or provide on-call coverage for applicable winter holidays as scheduled
• Patient Ratios: PICU approximately 1:1 to 1:2; stepdown approximately 1:3
• Floating: May float within demonstrated skills to Pediatrics or NICU for appropriate assignments
• Charting: Epic electronic medical record
• Scrubs: Navy blue

PICU RN Job Requirements

• At least 2 years of recent Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) critical care experience
• At least 1 year of pediatric cardiac care experience strongly preferred
• Active New Jersey or Compact Registered Nurse license at the time of submission
• Current BLS and PALS certifications
• Recent Epic charting experience
• Previous travel nursing experience required
• Documented pediatric critical care skills and competency checklist experience
• Ability to work night shifts, every other weekend, and required winter holiday coverage

Pediatric Intensive Care Nurse Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive critical care to infants, children, and adolescents with complex medical, surgical, and cardiac conditions.
• Assess patients, monitor hemodynamic and cardiac status, recognize changes in condition, and respond promptly to pediatric emergencies.
• Manage ventilated patients and provide care for acute airways, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, end-tidal CO2 monitoring, tracheostomies, and chest tubes.
• Administer and monitor IV vasopressors, continuous sedation, antiarrhythmics, anti-seizure medications, insulin, blood products, TPN, and lipids.
• Initiate and maintain IV access; manage central lines, implanted ports, PICC lines, and central-line blood draws.
• Provide care for patients experiencing acute or chronic renal failure, including peritoneal dialysis and pre- or post-hemodialysis care.
• Perform pediatric dosage calculations and use the Broselow system to support safe medication administration.
• Manage urinary catheters, gastric and NG tubes, wound care, isolation precautions, and infection-control practices.
• Collaborate with intensivists, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, social services, and other members of the pediatric critical care team.
• Float to Pediatrics or NICU when needed while accepting assignments appropriate to demonstrated competencies.
• Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient responses in Epic.
