Behavioral Health Nursing Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,860–$1,960
• Location: Derry, New Hampshire
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks
• Start Date: October 19, 2026
• End Date: January 18, 2027
• Schedule: 36 hours per week; 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
• Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend
• Unit: 18-bed behavioral health unit serving voluntary and involuntary patients
• Patient Ratio: Approximately 1 nurse to 8 patients
• Charting System: Expanse EMR

Psychiatric Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license; active compact license required at submission
• At least 2 years of Registered Nurse experience in a hospital setting
• Behavioral health, psychiatric nursing, or mental health nursing experience preferred
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Current Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification
• Strong organization, time management, communication, and teamwork skills
• Ability to provide nursing care in a locked behavioral health setting and support patients with varying levels of acuity

Psychiatric RN Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate nursing care to adult patients in a behavioral health and psychiatric setting
• Complete nursing assessments, monitor patient conditions, administer medications, and document care accurately in the Expanse EMR
• Support behavioral health treatment plans and participate in therapeutic groups
• Collaborate with nurses, mental health professionals, social workers, and case management teams
• Maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for voluntary and involuntary patients
• Respond appropriately to behavioral health concerns using effective de-escalation and crisis-management techniques
• Perform routine vital sign checks and occasional EKGs as indicated
• Provide one-to-one observation for patients throughout the hospital when assigned
• Participate in the every-other-weekend rotation and follow unit policies, behavioral health standards, and safety procedures
