NICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• At least 1 year of recent, full-time equivalent NICU nursing experience within the last 3 years
• Recent experience caring for patients in a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state where care is provided
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Maternal Child Health (MCH) Registered Nurse qualification
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a related field preferred
• Seven years of recent Level III NICU experience preferred

NICU Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill and premature newborns in a Level III NICU
• Assess neonatal patient conditions, recognize changes in status, and initiate appropriate nursing interventions
• Administer medications and therapies safely while monitoring treatment effectiveness
• Collaborate with neonatologists, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team
• Support neonatal resuscitation and respond effectively to urgent clinical situations
• Educate and support families throughout the neonatal care experience
• Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the electronic medical record
• Promote a safe, respectful, and family-centered patient care environment
