Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana or a valid compact RN license
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association
• At least 1 year of Registered Nurse experience in an acute-care hospital setting
• Strong medical-surgical nursing skills and the ability to care for multiple adult patients in a fast-paced environment
• Proficiency with electronic health records; EPIC experience is preferred
• Willingness to work the assigned day-shift schedule and required weekend coverage
• Ability to attend all required nursing orientation sessions

Medical-Surgical RN Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult medical-surgical patients in an acute-care hospital
• Assess patient conditions, develop and update individualized care plans, administer medications, and evaluate patient outcomes
• Perform patient-care procedures and safely manage equipment, including IV pumps, wound vacuums, lifts, feeding pumps, sequential compression devices, NG tubes, suction equipment, and Foley catheters
• Monitor patients for changes in condition and promptly communicate concerns to the interdisciplinary care team
• Document nursing assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in EPIC
• Collaborate with providers, therapists, support staff, patients, and families to promote safe, effective patient care
• Support patient education, discharge planning, and continuity of care
• Maintain a safe, organized, and compassionate environment for patients and colleagues
