Travel Nurse Job Details

Medical-Surgical Travel RN Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Mississippi
• At least 1 year of medical-surgical nursing experience; Level I trauma experience or experience in a large, high-acuity facility with a substantial surgical population is required
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Demonstrated comfort caring for patients with complex medical, surgical, trauma, and respiratory conditions
• Experience with peripheral and central lines, chest tubes, telemetry, and heparin infusions
• Ability to float between medical-surgical units within your demonstrated skill set
• Flu vaccination is required; medical exemptions may be considered with appropriate documentation
• Ability to complete required fingerprinting and onboarding documentation before the travel nursing assignment begins
• Professional solid-color clinical attire

Med/Surg RN Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate nursing care to patients with congestive heart failure, diabetes, postoperative needs, trauma, acute kidney injury, sickle cell disease, gastroparesis, and respiratory illnesses
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, develop and implement individualized plans of care, and evaluate patient outcomes
• Safely administer medications and manage ordered therapies, including heparin and other monitored infusions within unit protocols
• Monitor telemetry patients, recognize changes in clinical status, and promptly communicate concerns to the appropriate care team members
• Care for patients with chest tubes, central lines, and other complex medical devices
• Collaborate with providers, respiratory therapists, nursing assistants, educators, and interdisciplinary team members
• Document accurately and efficiently in Epic
• Float among medical-surgical units as needed while maintaining safe, patient-centered care
• Participate in unit orientation, electronic medical record training, competency validation, and precepted shifts
