Travel Nursing Job Details

• Location: Jackson, Mississippi
• Healthcare Setting: Acute-care medical-surgical units within a Level I trauma environment

• Contract Duration: 13 weeks
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Nursing Shift: 12-hour nights, typically 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
• Schedule: Every other weekend or approximately two weekends per month, with rotating holiday coverage

Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Mississippi
• At least 2 years of RN experience, including a minimum of 6 months of recent Level I trauma experience or experience in a large, high-acuity facility with extensive surgical volume
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Proficiency with EPIC electronic medical record (EMR) documentation; extensive training is not provided during orientation
• Comfort caring for patients with lines, chest tubes, telemetry monitoring, and complex medical-surgical needs
• Flu vaccination required; medical accommodations may be considered with appropriate documentation
• Ability to float among medical-surgical units within the RN's competency and participate in weekend and holiday rotation

Travel RN Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate nursing care for adult medical-surgical and high-acuity patients
• Manage patients with congestive heart failure, diabetes, post-surgical needs, trauma, acute kidney injury, sickle cell anemia, gastroparesis, respiratory illnesses, and other complex conditions
• Monitor patients through unit-based telemetry systems and respond appropriately to changes in condition
• Titrate heparin infusions and manage central lines, chest tubes, and other advanced nursing equipment as indicated
• Collaborate with respiratory therapy for patients requiring CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, or ventilatory support
• Accurately document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in EPIC
• Maintain safe nurse-to-patient assignments, generally ranging from 1:5 to 1:6 and adjusted for patient acuity
• Float across medical-surgical units within scope of practice and support the interdisciplinary care team
• Complete required onboarding activities, unit orientation, system access setup, and preceptor shifts
