Orthopedic Surgeon Job Requirements

• Board certification in Orthopedic Surgery
• Fellowship training in Orthopedic Surgery
• At least 1 year of recent orthopedic surgery experience
• Active Iowa physician license or active IMLC eligibility with a letter of qualification available at submission
• Ability to provide inpatient and orthopedic call coverage across both locations
• Availability for the required December call block
• Current medical staff credentials or eligibility to complete facility credentialing
• Clean malpractice and background history
• Strong clinical judgment, communication, and consultative skills

Orthopedic Surgery Responsibilities

• Provide 24-hour orthopedic call coverage for inpatient services and emergency consultations.
• Evaluate, diagnose, stabilize, and treat patients with orthopedic injuries, illnesses, and conditions.
• Perform or coordinate histories and physical examinations, admissions, consultations, and treatment plans.
• Manage orthopedic conditions involving the spine, hands, feet, knees, hips, shoulders, elbows, and associated musculoskeletal structures.
• Respond to orthopedic trauma, infections, tumors, deformities, degenerative conditions, and other musculoskeletal concerns.
• Provide phone consultation and clinical guidance to regional partner and allied hospitals.
• Review cases and accept appropriate patients through the local emergency department when indicated.
• Determine when patients require transfer to a higher level of care when services exceed local capabilities.
• Assess and stabilize emergent patients in accordance with medical staff policies and call coverage procedures.
• Provide care in intensive care settings when clinically appropriate and consistent with unit policies.
